Case 2
The
client is a large produces company which has a number of production plants
distributed throughout the country. The test results of the raw materials and
product samples that were generated from an analyser were printed but not
captured in each plant. To implement a national quality control (QC) program,
custom built software is needed for each plant to at least capture the data
which is generated by the scientific analyser. The solution was to roll out a
custom built software system which can be connected to the scientific
instrument to capture data readings transmitted through a communication port in
each plant. Data is captured and stored in a local database in each site. The
system has the business logic built in to control the accuracy of the test
sample details entered prior to testing. The stored data can be archived into
separate data files which can be imported back to the local database if needed.
The stored data from each plant is exported into a data files and stored in the
local area network (LAN) servers at the end of each working day. All exported
files are picked up through the wild area network (WAN) and placed on a
computer located at the national head quarter. Data from all these files can
then be appended onto a single master database which can be used to produce
national QC reports.
Case 3
The client who was a consultant from the world's largest fast food company that
wanted to develop software system to forecast food production. The project
aimed to help to predict the correct amount of food just in time to meet the
level of sales based on the past sales history. It predicts the number for each
food item that can be sold in the future down to every fifteen minutes
forecast. By doing that, it helps to minimise food wastage and the cost of
production. A user-friendly, robust system was successfully produced based on a
prototype provided on a spreadsheet.
Case 4
The client is from the manufacturing industry. The client used a popular
accounting system for book keeping and to generate Tax Invoices for their
sales. Without a suitable computer system to take care of the production plans,
they had to be created by retyping all details from the orders received. A
solution was needed to overcome the problem of double handling of data while
maintaining an up to date accounting system. A custom built software system was
provided to help to deal with the problems. Data is entered once into the
system to generate the Tax Invoices and packing slips. The sales information
can then be exported and imported into the accounting system daily. It provides
better control over the accuracy and ease of data entry; easy generation of Tax
Invoices and packaging slips; flexible and easy generation of production
documents for the production team; improved management on orders of raw
materials; data integration with the existing accounting software system;
automatic daily data export and import of data into the accounting system;
facility for the maintenance of product items and customer tables. The system
has greatly improved the productivity of the sales. The management of sales and
production are greatly improved by the system’s ability to generate management
reports. The manager can now be able to pick the key items from a master data
table to produce the reports that he needs. The company has been transformed
from a company that used a manual system into one that uses a highly efficient
and systemic system. Plan for enhancement on the system is underway that aimed
to further improve the management of the business.
Case 5
The clients supply products to the
construction industries. For each delivery of the product it requires a
delivery dockets for the customer. The problem was that the previous docketing
system used was running very slowly. Yet the biggest problem was that the
original software vendor is no longer in business and could not support the
system. A solution was provided to rebuild the docketing system using the
existing database as the data store. The low system performance issues have
been resolved plus some new upgraded features are added to the system. An
automatic cost calculator is added to one of the system helps to calculate the
cost. Furthermore, the data stored can be exported each day and can be
transmitted or emailed to the head quarter. The computer at head quarter can
find these files and imports the data automatically to a master database.
From the master database, information can be used to produce Tax Invoices for
billing the customers.
